Job Description

Job Title: Academic Liaison Librarian

Pay rate: £14.89 an hour

Assignment: 1 Year Maternity Cover Assignment

Hours: Full time - May include weekends where necessary

Location: Sparkhill, Birmingham

I am currently recruiting for a Academic Liaison Librarian for my Client within the Education Sector.

The Role

You will provide specialist library support for the learning and teaching activities of a specified University curriculum area.

As part of the Academic Liaison Librarian Team within the Library and Learning Resources, you will focus on the development of specialist, curriculum focused Digital and Information Literacy skills, resource support and support for design, planning, validation, delivery and review of courses and programmes. You will contribute to the provision of a blended and holistic curriculum of digital and information literacy, via the InfoSkills programme You will take into account the differing needs of students as they progress in their academic careers, and aim to develop the academic success, lifelong transferable skills and employability of our student body.

You will also act as lead within the Academic Services Team for a functional area of responsibility, currently including one or more of the following specified areas:

  • Collaborative Partner Support
  • Diversity / Inclusivity Support
  • Referencing Support (including Referencing Software Tools)
  • Copyright Support
  • Digital Capabilities

Essential Person Specification

  • First degree or equivalent
  • Professional qualification in Library and / or Information Studies OR significant previous experience in providing liaison / subject librarianship in an FE or HE environment
  • Evidence of a commitment to and knowledge of contemporary Digital and Information Literacy developments
  • Recent experience of delivering Information and Digital Literacy skills training, and producing associated materials
  • Recent experience of developing digital capabilities in a library and information context
  • Experience of working with a range of different learners e.g. mature students, school leavers
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Able to work as part of a team and in partnership with others
  • A commitment to meeting user needs and a proactive, positive approach to student centered service development providing enquiry support services using different channels

Desirable Person Specification

  • Teaching qualification
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body, for example CILIP, HEA
  • Experience of collection development work across print and digital collections
