Job Description
Exciting Part-Time Opportunity: Admin Assistant - Newton Abbot and Torquay Courts
Are you searching for a dynamic role where no two days are the same and you can make a real impact in the public sector? Brook Street is pleased to announce an Admin Assistant role, supporting operations at Newton Abbot Crime Court and Torquay Family Court.
Why This Role?
- Flexibility: Part-time hours with a rota planned 2-3 weeks in advance. Work 2-3 days a week, including Tuesdays and one additional day (Monday-Thursday).

Role Details
- Location: Newton Abbot Crime Court (TQ12 1NG) & Torquay Family Court (TQ2 7AZ).
- Contract: Part-time, temporary (until 03/05/2025), with potential for extension.
- Pay Rate: £11.44 p/h
- Working Hours: Between Monday and Thursday, every Tuesday with one more day varying each week
Key Responsibilities
- Meet and assist the public and legal professionals, ensuring courteous and efficient service.
- Set up and support remote video hearings and courtroom technology.
- Manage emails, correspondence, and internal communication with legal teams.
- Handle data entry and use court-specific software (training provided).
- Stay active, as Newton Court requires mobility and physical tasks.
- Provide ushering duties and support for hearings, fostering smooth operations.

- Adaptability: Ability to work flexible hours with changing schedules.
- Strong communication skills: Polite, tactful, and clear. You will be dealing with the public and legal teams.
- Tech-savvy: Comfortable learning and using new systems.
- Team player: Collaborative mindset
- Background: Ideally a recent law or criminology graduate, or a candidate with hospitality experience and transferable skills, eager to grow in the public sector.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations.
- A positive attitude towards physical tasks and mobility at Newton Court.
- Successful candidates will undergo a Basic DBS check and 3 years of referencing.
