Job Description

This is one of the few frontline roles in the department that offers the opportunity to meet the public directly, epitomising public service. Legalisation is an important Consular service; you will be responsible for ensuring the official's signature, seal, or stamp is valid, enabling the document to be used overseas. Investigative work is sometimes needed, along with a keen eye for detail. You'll also need to work at pace - our customers expect to receive documents back on the same day. Good judgement, and excellent customer service skills are essential.

The Position -

In the department is split into 4 teams, each of which you will rotate through during your time in the role. You will become proficient in the duties and responsibilities of all of them, including processing individual applications, dealing directly with customers to address any issues, carrying out investigative work to verify public officials' signatures, and quality checking and dispatching applications completed by others.

As your knowledge of the different roles increases, you will have opportunity to lead the individual teams, taking responsibility for output, delegating and assigning work, and identifying potential problems and proposing solutions. Once proficient, you will also can train or mentor others - either those completely new to legalisation work, or newer staff as they progress through the teams.

You will have ownership of all the applications or customer issues you are dealing with. Getting them right - and within established ministerial targets - is extremely important. You will be part of a very supportive team you can turn to for advice or a second opinion as needed.
