The Environment Agency
We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do. We reduce the risks to people, properties and businesses from flooding and coastal erosion. We protect and improve the quality of water, making sure there is enough for people, businesses, agriculture and the environment. Our work helps to ensure people can enjoy the water environment through angling and navigation. We look after land quality, promote sustainable land management and help protect and enhance wildlife habitats. And we work closely with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations. We can't do this alone. We work with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife. Of course, none of this will be possible without the professionalism and dedication of our staff. We are committed to promoting equality and diversity in all we do, and to valuing the diversity of our workforce, customers and communities. We're committed to helping our people to find new ways of working and to maintain our focus on creating a better place for people and wildlife. We're looking for a part time (18.5hrs possibly more depending on work volume) Administration Support Officer to assist with the day-to-day operation of a busy Depot and its team. The team is predominantly field-based, but you'll be a crucial part of the office-based staff that manage their work.
You'll play a central part in the operation of the Depot as the main point of contact for visitors, correspondence and office supplies. You'll support Team Leaders with the management of their teams by entering and maintaining records, purchasing services and equipment, and co-coordinating appointments such as meetings, training and travel bookings.
Our Operations Field Teams work at the front line of flood risk management. Their primary role is to provide emergency response to flooding. When they're not responding to emergencies, they carry out a busy programme of construction and maintenance work on our rivers to ensure they are in a condition that prevents flooding. It's a rewarding department to work in, at the forefront of saving properties and lives.
You'll have experience in providing administrative support in a busy office environment, or similar transferable skills. As the main point of contact for visitors and calls, you'll have good customer-facing skills. Other essential skills in this role are managing your workload, working as part of a team, and communicating effectively in speech and writing. You'll also have excellent IT skills as a large proportion of the role involves using computer systems, such as spreadsheets, databases and web-applications. Experience of computer-based procurement/purchasing systems will be an advantage.
