Job Description

We have an exciting temporary opportunity to work at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency in central Southampton, for an Administrator / Data Processor.

These roles are pivotal to the transformation and modernisation of UK Seafarer Services, supporting the development and implementation of a new database and workflow system for managing the processes and information associated with seafarers applying for both UK certificates and UK endorsements to other Flag State certificates.

Without their certificates or endorsements, seafarers cannot work which could result in vessels being unable sail, potentially impacting the flow of cargo.

The primary purpose of this role is to carry out the codifying of the required processes and procedures into the new database and workflow system.

In addition, to support user testing of the new system ahead of implementation of each staged deliverable.

These activities are critical to ensuring seafarers are able to continue working and to enables MCA to meet its objectives.

1. Carry out configuration activities under the direction of the Database Configuration Manager following the agreed configuration plan.

2. Complete configuration of processes and workflows within the database, ensuring they are fit for purpose and updated with the introduction of new releases, features or process updates at the direction of the Product Owner, Database Configuration Manager and other Seafarer Services Branch Management

3. Support user testing for each database release at the direction of the Database Configuration Manager

4. Undertake configuration updates and testing for each database release.

5. Work with operational colleagues in the UK Seafarer Services branch to ensure that processes are correctly generated and implemented.

6. Engage with certification colleagues within the wider team to ensure processes are fit for purpose and facilitate knowledge transfer

  • Working hours are Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm
  • Pay rate:£10.21/ hour, 37.30 standard hours/week
  • Location: Spring Place, Southampton, SO15 1EG
