Job Description

Information Officer

Context of the role

This role is part of the team responsible for the overall delivery of Business Intelligence and Performance Management to support primarily Acute Contract Management to Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs). The Team is responsible for ensuring the delivery of agreed services, including information needed to support Acute Contract Management work, reporting tools and relevant data sets, to enable the defined customer Service Level Agreements to be met.

The post holder will provide information and analytical support. The post-holder will provide input to and work as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT).

Role specific duties and responsibilities
The post holder will undertake the following duties and responsibilities
- Provide specialist information and analytical support including:
- Quality checking of daily A&E data feeds
- Liaising with acute providers to ensure timely submission of data and information
- Maintaining performance scorecards, reporting actual performance against plan and trajectories
- Bringing to the attention of the Senior Information Manager when information is not provided according to agreed timetables or is of poor data quality
- Highlight breaches of national targets to Senior Information Manager
- Providing robust and effective performance monitoring information, as required, to the, including tailoring information reports to meet the needs of a range of stakeholders
- Support the Senior Information Manager in ensuring that robust and effective activity related monitoring information is provided as required to key stakeholders on a regular basis, including tailoring data and information reports to meet the needs of a range of stakeholders
- Support MDTs, reporting on agreed key national and local performance targets to be delivered through service contracts related to information provision, including data quality. This will include effective performance management of agreed information targets and to ensure the delivery of these targets by Trust and by CCG each year
- Ensure that acute sector activity data provided either by Secondary Uses Service (SUS) or by local Trusts is validated and is timely, comprehensive and accurate, ensuring data has been correctly assigned so that the CCGs only pay for their own activity.
- Maintain an overview of data quality assurance systems and identify, challenge and investigate suspect data inaccuracies, changes and to monitor audit trails.
- Support the Claims Management process, ensuring appropriate validation queries are submitted to Providers to timetable, logging all responses on a dedicated database and producing monthly summary reports
- Develop and keep up to date knowledge of NHS Data Dictionary and Data Models including the varied and highly complex data sets in use within acute and Community systems
- Work with the Solutions Delivery Team to establish systems to enable the effective and timely monitoring, assessment and management of acute sector activity, including the development of internal databases and utilisation of benchmarking comparative tools that look across whole systems
- Input to the design and user testing of the data warehouse and performance reporting tools, which support the delivery of day-to-day business
- Carry out the role in accordance with national and local policies and procedures including information governance (data protection, Caldicott etc)
- Any other duties commensurate with the role.
