AO Admin Caseworker - Job Description


Summary
Resettlement, Asylum Support & Integration (RASI) sits within UK Visas and Immigration within the Home Office. The National Asylum Allocation Unit (NAAU) is part of RASI.

The National Asylum Allocation Unit is a shift working unit, operational between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00 (Monday to Friday) and 09:00 and 16:00 (weekends and bank holidays). Successful candidates will be expected to work the full range of shifts; with the earliest shift starting at 07:45 and the latest at 12:45. Staff work a mix of early, mid and late shifts.

In addition, successful candidates will be expected to work 29 to 33 weekend days (1 weekend/2 weekend days in 4), plus 2 Bank Holidays per year.

Job description
This is an excellent opportunity to take up a post within RASI whose responsibilities include managing asylum applicants who seek protection in the UK by offering support services (accommodation and financial support) to those we accept as destitute. The pace of work is therefore sensitive to fluctuations is asylum intake.

NAAU is a large, busy, operational unit. NAAU deal with a wide range of duties, including;

o Assessing the suitability of asylum applications to be considered by a third country under the Dublin Regulation
o Assessing claims of destitution, ensuring that only those entitled to emergency asylum support, in the form of accommodation, receive it
o Ensuring compliance with safeguarding, for those who are destitute and vulnerable, in arranging Accommodation and transportation under the Asylum Accommodation and Support Contracts (AASC)
o Allocating new asylum cases to the Asylum Operational Decision-Making Units, across the UK, within two working days of the claim being recorded


Responsibilities
You will be suitable for this role if you;

o Are flexible, proactive and self-motivated, with strong organisational skills
o Are an excellent team worker
o Are able to juggle priorities to meet deadlines, often working in a fast-paced busy environment
o Have good communication and customer service skills
o Are able to remain calm and positive under pressure, demonstrating a "can do" attitude

Your main tasks will include:

o Taking electronic or telephone referrals and processing these in line with team guidance and standards for quality, productivity and timeliness in order to provide an excellent customer service to applicants and a range of internal colleagues and external partners
o Monitoring and management of inboxes /databases ensuring that emails are triaged promptly and appropriately
o Booking transport and accommodation for destitute asylum seekers
o Liaison with Home Office colleagues, and external working partners, in order to request required information and/or documentation, diarising and following up where necessary
o Updating a range of Excel spreadsheets
o Checking and updating Home Office casework systems


Appointment will be subject to a successful Counter Terrorist Check vetting (CTC). You will need to have a valid passport, 2 x proofs of address, proof of NI, and ideally have been living in the UK for the last 5 years.
The role office based in Croydon. You will be working 37 hours a week, a mix of early, mid and late shifts between the hours of 7.45am and 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm Weekends and bank holidays. You will be expected to work 29 to 33 weekend days (1 weekend/2 weekend days in 4), plus 2 Bank Holidays per year.
