Job Description

NHS England- Assistant Accountant - Graduates Welcome

Pay: £11.76 increasing to £12.74 after 12 weeks

Hours: Monday-Friday 37.5 hours

Address: Hybrid working between home and the office

This is a Long term on-going temporary position until the end of September 2022 with potential extension due to the business needs

Job purpose

As an Assistant Accountant the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Finance Team and be a member of the team responsible for the financial accounting and consolidation arrangements for NHS England.

The post holder is a key member of the team whose overarching goal is to enable, promote and support the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to improve, inform and support a portfolio of projects, services, and initiatives.

Job Duties:

In particular the post holder will

  • Provide high quality project, service, initiative and analytical support including information and analysis.
  • Undertake reporting and analysis of information to support delivery
  • Provide end user support on the Integrated Single Financial Environment
  • Contribute to effective information management within the team
  • Undertake information analysis as agreed with job lead
  • Contribute to effective information management within the team
  • Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects to provide information/analyst advice and support and to maintain data collection systems for its effective use by the team
  • Analyse and report on data and monitor the processing of data and information
  • Provide information to project lead on project and statistical information matters

The Group Accounting and Systems team is responsible for:

  • Managing the financial accounting system and its key processes within NHS England and NHS Improvement, including:
  • Accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable
  • General Ledger
  • Cash
  • Fixed Assets
  • Production of annual accounts on behalf of NHS England, NHS Improvement and the wider NHS England Group
  • Managing our taxation
  • Managing the chart of accounts
  • Managing finance system access

What we are looking for:

  • Must have advanced Excel knowledge and experience
  • Strong IT skills including Ms office programmes and share point
  • NHS experience desirable but not essential
  • Experience of using Oracle is desirable but not essential
  • Quick learner
  • Finance experience and accounts payable/knowledge
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
