Job Description

I am currently recruiting for a Band 4 Payroll Team Leader, to join a bust trust in Chester - CH2.


Hours: 37.50 (Monday - Friday)
£9.28 minimum - dependent upon experience

3 month temporary assignment minimum, with potential for longer term


Your responsibilities as listed below but are not limited to:

o Delivering an effective and efficient ESR service to the HR Shared Services clients, complying with all relevant statutory regulations and Trust policies, in order to ensure that accurate and timely staff payments are processed and the ESR database remains up to date and reliable.
o Contributing to the teams KPI's in accordance with service specifications including response times to pay queries, correspondence and payroll deadlines.
o To ensure the correct interpretation of Agenda for Change, Medical & Dental and Local Terms and Conditions of Service and the NHS pension Scheme regulations.
o To deliver an accurate method of paying staff within the clients Standing Financial Instructions and in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
o To be responsible for the overall ownership of the record in association with the preparation and verification of all temporary and permanent ESR/payroll documentation, including new starters, changes to personal and post information, internal movements and terminations.
o To provide advice and guidance to Line Managers on complex queries/issues relating to the payments to staff and authorised deductions from pay.
o To fully utilise Information Technology in the application of ESR and the production of the payroll including the ability to fully exploit the use of excel spreadsheets.
o Responsible for ensuring the Standard Operating Procedures are utilised and kept updated in line with changes to processes.
o Responsible for working to Standard Operating Procedures where these are in place and contributing to the continuous improvement of these.
o To plan and prioritise own workload, highlighting any areas of risk to the Payroll/ESR Team Manager
o To train new Payroll/ESR Officers as and when required


The ideal candidate must have NHS payroll experience.
