Job Description

We are seeking an experienced bookkeeper to join an independent and well-established accountancy firm based in Devon. The firm have enjoyed recent business growth and are looking for someone to join their super friendly team! You will have the opportunity to earn a basic salary of £18,000-£28,000 per annum.

THE ROLE
The Bookkeeper will maintain financial records and manage their cash flow. You will record financial transactions and ensure financial records and statements are accurate and up to date. This involves using specialised software, including accounting programs and spreadsheets.

Our client is an independent and well-established firm of accountants who have a wealth of experience in all areas of accountancy and taxation. They are a forward-thinking Practice with a relaxed culture and believe that a proactive approach to tax and business development is essential when dealing with small and medium sized owner operated businesses.

TYPICAL DAILY JOB DUTIES - WHAT WILL YOU BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?
o Processing payments, invoices, income and receipts and entering data into accounting software or databases then filing hard copies
o Preparing financial statements showing business income and expenditure
o Paying vendor invoices and tracking bank account balances
o Completing VAT returns
o Verifying the accuracy of business accounts and alerting the Accountant of errors
o Recording any inconsistencies to help the accountants reconcile inaccuracies
o Developing monthly financial statements including cash flow, profit and loss and balance sheets
o Preparing employee wages
o Managing employee expense claims
o Helping the Accountant with administrative duties and preparing yearly accounts

PERSON SPECIFICATION
o Previously worked in an accountancy practice.
o Bookkeeping
o General Administration
o Microsoft Office literate (word and excel)
o Ability to communicate with clients clearly and professionally:
- On the telephone
- Letter writing
- Emails
o Ability to work autonomously, prioritise workload and manage deadlines.
o Personable - will have client contact.
o Sociable.
o Organised - We strive for consistency and control to give a professional and proactive service.
o AAT/Bookeeping Qualification (Desirable)
o Sage One, Sage Desktop, Xero (Desirable)

SALARY
£18,000 - £28,000 Dependable on experience.

HOURS
February to December: 37 hours per week as follows:

Monday - Thursday 8.30 am - 5.00 pm (30-minute lunch break)
Friday 8.30 am - 1.30 pm (no lunch break)

For the month of January: 40 hours per week as follows:

Monday - Friday 8.30 am - 5.00 pm (30 minute lunch break)
