Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our client the Government Legal Department (GLD) in the Commercial Law team as a Business support officer. This is a long term temporary role.

  • Location: Wellington Pl, Leeds LS1 4AP (Hybrid working approach - 2 day minimum in office)
  • Hours: Monday- Friday 37 hours a week - 9 - 5
  • Salary: £12.83


Who are the GLD?

The Government Legal Department (GLD) is the largest provider of legal services across Government, working with all the main Whitehall Departments. Please note, this role does not include any legal or paralegal work

PURPOSE OF JOB

We are looking for Business Management Officers (EO grade) who are enthusiastic and proactive, with the ability and resilience to operate effectively in a fast paced environment, to provide day to day Business Management support to our legal teams and their Deputy Directors. Although posts are currently temporary, there is an expectation that we will be recruiting permanently and candidates in post on a temporary basis will be able to apply.


The role:

Successful candidates will primarily focus on providing support to a Deputy Director and their team of lawyers. Key responsibilities will include diary management, proactively managing inbox queries for a Deputy Director, arranging meetings, travel and training, note taking and recording minutes for meetings, collating weekly/monthly reports, supporting/dealing with finance, HR and IT queries/processes, preparing papers for lawyers.

The role will include:

  • Preparing routine correspondence and checking that of others

  • Compiling, verifying and reporting data
  • Completing forms or reports
  • Managing the workload of a small team, if required
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders

The successful candidate will:

  • High standard of written comms and attention to detail- essential
  • Proficiency with Excel, WORD etc and other standard office packages, inc Adobe - essential
  • Experience of case management systems or similar - desirable
  • NVQ Management Level 3 or 4 (or suitable junior management experience)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
