Specialising in manufacturing for scientific, analytical and metrology industries this business is looking for a Buyer to support new projects and supply chain activity.

About the Role

Working as a Buyer, you will be responsible for:

• Using the Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) system to identify materials required and then ensure that these are ordered and delivered on-time.
• Creating accurate Purchase Orders ensuring that part numbers, issue numbers, prices, cost centres, exchange rates and other information are entered correctly.
• Negotiating price and delivery lead-time with suppliers.
• Liaising with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice queries.
• Supplier Account Management
• Expediting orders and minimisation of shortages.
• Liaising with Production Planner to highlight problems meeting delivery schedules
• Continually work to reduce material cost whilst not compromising quality and on-time delivery by working closely with the Purchasing Team Leader.
• Negotiating improved terms & conditions, payment terms, buffer stock, free delivery and other methods to reduce cost of acquisition
• Support in preparing data for monthly reporting to Corporate Operations.

What we need from you:

We need you to demonstrate adaptability and flexibility along with the ability to take responsibility and make decisions. It is vital that you are both a team leader and player.

If you have experience of writing contracts and the ability to read engineering drawings this will put you at an advantage. This also applies for candidates who are part CIPS qualified or have a HNC in an Engineering discipline.

Strong candidates will have/be:

• Experience of working in a manufacturing company.
• Relevant experience of purchasing engineered parts.
• Knowledge and experience of using an MRP system.
• Good written & verbal communication skills.
• Negotiation skills.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Competent with MS Office software package.
• Flexibility & resourcefulness.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
• Diligent and well organised.
