Job Description - Post Title Chief Science Technician
Purpose
„h The Chief Science Technician line manages other science technicians, and supervises their professional and
pastoral welfare, including in-house Professional Learning, time-keeping, attendance and allocation of work.
„h Assists teachers in the preparation of lesson materials.
„h Under the direction of the Faculty Coordinator & Head of Subject such other tasks that may be required to
further the efficient running of the department and the Academy, commensurate with the level of the post
holder.

„h Line managing other science technicians and the core curriculum support staff.
„h Assisting teachers by preparing lesson materials.
Liaising With Principal, Vice Principals, Assistant Principals, Lead Practitioners, Faculty Coordinators, external agencies and parents.

Main/Core Duties
Operational/Strategic Planning
„h To assist teacher in the preparation of lesson materials and daily check of room consumables.
„h To maintain high levels of cleanliness and tidiness of stock cupboards in Science.
„h To be responsible for the ordering of stock.
„h To maintain stocktake of Science department inclusive of: annual checks, requisitions and receipts of supplies,
local purchase of required items.
„h Control of petty cash account.
„h Organisation, storage and record keeping of equipment and chemicals.
„h Safety and security of disposal of hazardous waste.
„h Implementation of health and safety regulations.
„h Regular safety checks of all science based equipment
„h Preparation of bulk solution of stock.
„h Care and maintenance of labs, equipment, animals and plants.
„h To work alongside Federation colleagues.
„h Organise the construction, preparation, repair, cleaning, transport and collection of equipment.
„h Effectively delegate duties.
„h Understanding of Science syllabus and schemes of work.
„h Assistance with training schemes as required.
„h Hold regular meetings with other support and technical staff attached to Faculties and represent their views at
Area Manager meetings.
„h Under the direction of the Faculty Co-ordinator, such other tasks that may be required to further the efficient
running of the Academy, commensurate with the level of the post holder.
„h To implement Health and Safety regulations.
„h To assist in the development of appropriate resources.
„h To contribute to the subject area¡¦s Improvement Plan and its implementation.
„h To attend all appropriate meetings.
„h To contribute to the whole Academy¡¦s planning activities.

„h To take part in the Academy¡¦s staff development programme by participating in arrangements for further
training and professional development.
„h To continue personal development in the relevant areas including subject knowledge and teaching methods.
„h To engage actively in the Performance Appraisal target setting and review process.
„h To ensure the effective/efficient deployment of classroom support.
„h To work as a member of a designated team and to contribute positively to effective working relations within
the Academy.
Quality Assurance
Management Information
„h To help to implement Academy quality procedures and to adhere to those.
„h To contribute to the process of monitoring and evaluation of the subject area in line with agreed Academy
procedures, including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.
„h To seek/implement modification and improvement where required.
„h To review from time to time programmes of work.
„h To maintain appropriate records and to provide relevant accurate and up-to-date information for Academy
correspondence.
„h To complete the relevant documentation to assist in the tracking of correspondence.
Communications
„h To communicate effectively with the parents of students as appropriate
