Domestic Abuse Practitioner (BAME Specialist)

20 hours per week
Shift Pattern: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
Salary: £13,624 per annum
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Domestic Abuse Practitioner to support BAME women and their children within a specialist refuge service in Leicester.
You will provide safe, culturally sensitive support to individuals experiencing domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based violence, and other forms of harm. This is a frontline role where you will help residents rebuild their confidence, independence, and wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage referrals, admissions, and risk/needs assessments
- Provide 1:1 emotional and practical support, including safety planning
- Support access to housing, benefits, legal, health, and education services
- Advocate for residents and attend key appointments
- Deliver culturally appropriate support to BAME communities
- Develop and review personalised support plans
- Support safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
- Assist with the day-to-day running of the refuge
- Maintain accurate records and case notes
- Participate in on-call/out-of-hours support
Requirements
- Experience supporting BAME women affected by domestic abuse or similar
- Background in social care, support work, or safeguarding (2-3 years)
- Ability to speak at least one relevant BAME language
- Strong communication, advocacy, and organisational skills
- Ability to manage complex and high-risk situations
- Flexible approach to working hours (including on-call)
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable
- Experience in the voluntary sector
- Knowledge of NRPF, immigration, or complex needs
- First Aid qualification
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
