Job Description

Electrical Controls Engineer (ECE)

Report to - Aerospace Production Manager (APM)

Salary - £30,000 - £35,000

Bonus / Overtime - Available

Working Hours: Monday - Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm (37.5 hours a week)

Location: Portsmouth

Client is an established military contractor, designing, manufacturing and supplying cooling solutions to all arms of the military, in particular Air and Sea. Due to retirement we are looking for an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer.

The ECE is responsible for the electrical assembly, installation, testing, and fault finding associated with all company projects and domestic facilities. It requires the post holder to co-ordinate resources and liaise with internal and external key contacts to ensure work is delivered on time and to a quality standard.

The minimum requirement for the post of WEE would be a 5-year indentured engineering apprenticeship in electrical/control engineering. Due to the specialised nature of the work this would have to be backed up by 10 years' experience in a civil/marine/aerospace engineering capacity.

Key Responsibilities:

*Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.

*Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.

*Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.

*Manage the company Pat Testing System and Log.

*Direct and train co-workers on how to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

*Assist with the design of control circuits for existing and new build machinery including wiring to the PLC as well as creating panel layouts.

*Prepare sketches or follow Engineering drawings to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.

*Ensure that all activities relating to electrical building maintenance are carried out and managed accordingly in line with current IEC Regulations.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Educated to Degree level in an electrical engineering discipline (preferably Civil, Marine or Aircraft engineering) or equivalent working experience.

Skills:

  • An understanding of the requirements of assembly, test, fault finding and rectification of complex electromechanical components and machines. A good understanding and experience of using test equipment.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience.
  • Proven track record of the ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal communication and organisational skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Intermediate ICT skills (MS Office, Emails etc).
  • Be able to effectively communicate in both written and verbal format.
