Job Description

Location: Work from Home / Lancaster House, Newcastle
Rate of Pay: £12.95ph
37 hours per week - Part time arrangements could be considered
Flexible working hours between 7am-7pm
Start Date: ASAP

The Engagement Officer will work with the Head of Communications, HR, internal stakeholders and the Communications team to ensure timely and consistent communication and engagement between all colleagues in a number of locations, within the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).
The Engagement Officer will be tasked with leading on a range of communication channels such as employee newsletters, the MMO intranet, all colleague events which will enable colleagues to connect to and access information more easily and feel more engaged in what is going on across the whole of the organisation.

Essential criteria for this role:

- Experience of delivering engagement and internal communications content through a selection of channels and delivering internal and external events, ensuring all products are delivered to a high standard.
- Excellent experience in organising events, meetings, and workshops
- Be able to communicate in a succinct and engaging manner using appropriate styles, methods and timing, using both verbal and strong writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills
- The ability to provide support and advice to leaders and colleagues based on insight and evaluation to inform future plans. Including experience of advising colleagues on the likely effect (on internal communications) of their action.
- The highest standard of organisational, time management and prioritisation skills
- The ability to collaborate with colleagues and build positive working relationships at all levels and to clarify the purpose and objectives of engagement activities.
- The ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Detail conscious
- The ability to use own initiative and work as an effective team member
- Experience in liaising with and influencing a range of stakeholders
- Experience of using Microsoft Office and other systems/databases
- Commitment to delivering excellent customer service



Desirable criteria for this role:

- Industry-recognised communication qualification (such as CIPR) or equivalent.
- Experience in using Dreamweaver
- Experience in contributing to communication plans
- Understanding the importance of internal engagement in terms of increased performance, productivity and motivation
- Understanding the importance of external engagement in terms of two-way communications, building trust and acting upon feedback



Key tasks/principal accountabilities:

- Responsible for organising a variety of internal events including the MMO colleague conference, campaigns, lunch and learn sessions, HR sessions).
- Obtain and collate feedback from the organisation.
- Provide support to internal Defra events.
- Be the lead communications representative for MMO networks. Provide advice and guidance on internal communications and produce comms plans when required.
- Support the Head of Communications in delivering monthly all Colleague calls and delivering key messages, effective communication plans and campaigns.
- Manage communications mailboxes.
- Lead on organising MMO`s presence at external events, such as conferences, exhibitions and stakeholder events.
- Assist the wider communications team to support any external campaigns and events.
- Responsible for managing and coordinating visitors to the business.
- Responsible for gathering and collating feedback from both internal and external stakeholders and collect it, analyse it and make recommendations to the organisation from it.
- Assist in bringing about intelligence on internal/external engagement and prioritisation for the business.
- Responsible for any other ad-hoc communications duties as directed by line management.
