Job Description

Location: The Quadrant, 99 Parkway Ave, Sheffield S9 4WF

Pay rate: £11.29 p/h - Shift work (Full time)

Contract type: Temporary

The Environment Agency is currently recruiting for Team Members to join a small team in their Sheffield Office (located just off the parkway). Their centre provides a vital service which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Team members are expected to work on a shift rota basis which will include some nights and weekend work.

What will I be doing?

As a team member of the incident centre your work will involve handling calls from the general public, businesses, local authorities, emergency services and other government organisations. A sample of the types of incidents you will be logging will include:

  • Water Incidents - Alteration to a watercourse, Fish kill/disease, Flooding, Reservoir Failures, Sewage Related Incidents, Unusual Changes in River Flow, Watercourse Blockages.
  • Pollution Incidents - Radioactive Incidents, Watercourse Pollution, Beach Pollution, Oil and Chemical Spills, Self-Reported Incidents, Nuclear Incidents.
  • Waste Incidents - Commercial Burning of waste, Fly Tipping, Illegal Waste Sites, Incidents at Waste Sites, Odour and Noise, Permit Breaches, Waste Carrier Incidents.
  • Wildlife Incidents - Damage to protected habitats, Dead Animals, Illegal Cockling, Illegal Fishing and Poaching.

This is a customer service role where you will be handling calls directly from the public so candidates should be aware some callers may be emotional and distressed. This will involve speaking to callers who are experiencing flooding or concerned public reporting environmental incidents or crimes.

Full onsite training will be provided to all successful candidates during their induction period.

Shift Pattern:

Please note, depending on your start date you may start your rota at week 1.
