Government Legal Executive Officer
Mon- Fri 9am-5pm £12.38ph
The Lateral, 8 City Walk, Leeds, LS11 9AT

We are the government's principal legal advisers. Our core purpose is to help the government to govern well, within the rule of law.

We do this by providing legal advice on the development, design and implementation of government policies and decisions, drafting secondary legislation and working with Parliamentary Counsel on primary legislation, and representing the government in court.

We are recruiting for an Executive Officer in our Business Management Team in London, Manchester or Leeds. The post will involve working closely with a Deputy Director and legal team in the Commercial Law Group. This is a Business Management role and does not include any legal or paralegal work.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a challenging, varied and important role which is primarily focused on supporting the day to day business of a Deputy Director and their legal team. The role requires a very strong skill set, meeting challenging deadlines and a high degree of attention to detail. All round IT skills are needed as well as the ability to communicate with staff at all grades.

We are looking for enthusiastic and proactive candidates with the ability and resilience to operate effectively.

The post holder will support delivery of key business priorities and help to build and develop a strong Business Management ethos whilst delivering an excellent service. The work is fast paced and will suit a great team player.

Key responsibilities will include: diary management, proactively managing inbox queries for a deputy director, arranging meetings, travel and training, note taking and recording minutes for meetings, undertaking research activities as required on behalf of the team, collating weekly/monthly reports, supporting/dealing with finance, HR and IT queries/processes, preparing papers for lawyers.

Each EO has a wider corporate CLGp focus activity supporting their respective deputy director/line manager this can include arranging all staff events, wellbeing, skills and careers, training, Business Management away-days.

This list is not exhaustive, and the successful candidates will be required to provide ad-hoc support where and when necessary.
