Job Description

Technical Support Officer.

We are currently recruiting for a Technical Support Officer to work with one of our fantastic Public Sector clients in Leicester, LE3.

This a 9 month temporary position but one in which you would be able to gain valuable exposure/experience working within the Public Sector.

Standard hours are 37 hours per week Monday - Friday
Pay rate of £10.21 per hour rising to £13.84 after 12 weeks which is paid weekly.

Role purpose;

The Vehicle Certification Agency is looking to appoint two Technical Support Officers to work within the operations team at the VCA Midlands Centre in Nuneaton. You will be working with a Principal Engineer on the management of large test programmes to enable more efficient and timely delivery of product certification. You will have a strong administration background which you will utilise to ensure high quality output of VCA reports and certificates. You will play a big role in supporting VCA Engineers completing test activities in real-time through setting up the job folders and test reports, reviewing information packages, drafting certificates and providing thorough checking of certification packs prior to issuing. You will directly work with vehicle manufacturers to maintain communication to keep them updated on approval status and gather any required information preventing issuing.
VCA is a ISO17025 accredited test laboratory, which requires continued maintenance of calibrated equipment. You will support this accreditation by ensuring the schedule for test equipment calibration is maintained and records updated accordingly.
You will be a motivated, pro-active and highly organised individual with a strong administrative and customer-focussed background, who has an interest in working in the automotive industry. You will work independently and also with the wider team therefore team working skills are essential.
Experience Indicators:
This is an ideal career move for someone who has a strong administration background and wants to develop themselves further in to technical support role. This would be a very exciting opportunity for anyone with an interest in the automotive industry and automotive technologies. Experience of Type Approval would be beneficial but not mandatory but a willingness to learn new things is essential and you should not be afraid to ask questions to further your understanding.

Responsibilities
Within your role you will:

o Work with the Principal Engineer to keep the project status up to date and provide this information to key stakeholders
o Proactively manage and prioritise work to produce high quality and timely output
o Liaise with vehicle manufacturers and answer their queries on the status of approvals
o Prepare and complete test reports whilst working with Type Approval Engineers in real time
o Maintain records and keep job folders up to date
o Identify and source missing information to enable the timely completion of test reports
o Draft approval certificates
o Support technical administration activities for calibration laboratory
o Monitor invoicing and budgets or run KPI reports
o Complete thorough administrative and technical checks of approval packages prior to them being released

Essential Criteria
o Excellent attention to detail
o Strong written and verbal communication skills
o Excellent attention to detail and numeracy skills
o Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
o Ability to adapt to changing priorities and workload
o Natural team player and strong work ethic
o Demonstrates honesty and integrity
o Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build working relationships in a customer facing environment
o Interest in the automotive industry and a basic knowledge of the main components, in particular engine components, would be an advantage

Education
o GCSE's in Math, English and Science, or equivalent qualifications
o A-Levels or equivalent in Math, English or Business Administration would be advantageous

Development Opportunities
VCA holds accreditation for ISO17020 and ISO 17025, training will be available in these areas to aid understanding of the testing activities that are ongoing.
