Job Description

Finance Assistant
Monday To Friday 9-5
4 months temporary assignment with a possible extension
£12.13 an hour

The Post

The post is within a finance team in Croydon a team of four, are responsible for processing all of the receipts and payments, providing financial information for reporting and disclosure and producing the annual accounts that are audited by the National Audit Office and published in Parliament.

Reporting to the Finance Team Leader, the post holder will need to:

  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of excel
  • Handle figures confidently ensuring accuracy of financial data.
  • Be aware of Departmental processes maintaining recognised practices.
  • Make sure batches posted to the system are approved and signed off as necessary.
  • Ensure all electronic receipts are identified, recorded in the database and appropriately posted to the SOS systems, communicating any that prove difficult to be responsible, among other tasks for
  • Check daily receipt of cheques, enter in database and bank on a weekly basis all those identified. Post to SOS once they have been cleared in our bank.
  • Deal with third party cheques and unidentified cheques in a timely manner.
  • Post to SOS any out of date cheques and cancelled cheques making sure this is communicated to the case holder.
  • Support the review of processes on a regular basis to identify and target fraud risk
  • Complete calculations for Estate Accounts, so returns are completed in a timely manner.
  • Review the Finance inbox and action or reply to enquiries in a timely manner, escalating those more complex emails to line manager.
  • Manage own workload efficiently so that all targets are met. Review all outstanding work on a regular basis.
  • Support the Team Leader in implementing agreed audit recommendations as required.
  • Cover the work of other colleagues when necessary and escalate any issues that might prove difficult to the Finance Control Team leader, so not urgent issues are missed.
  • Manage an efficient and economic use of taxpayer's money in delivering public services.
  • Deal effectively with routine problems seeking advice when necessary from relevant people to identify solutions to challenges.
  • Ensure public assets and money are secure and used appropriately

To be successful for the role you would need:

  • Good excel skills
  • Finance/Accounts experience
