Job Description

Higher Executive Officer - Canary Wharf

The role

We are looking for a Communications Manager (HEO/IO) to join the Diversity and Engagement team on a fixed term contract (September 2020 - April 2021). The Communications Manager will support the team in creating and distributing content, including developing content for our new website, and working with stakeholders.

This is a temporary role to offer support during a busy period, including the development of a new website, and will involve picking up some business as usual tasks in order to free up capacity elsewhere, as well as leading on and implementing new initiatives to be run long-term by the team.

You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to plan, create and share communications to support the JAC's strategic aims, working with external partners to boost the impact of our communications. You will create content and advise on the use of communications channels (including stakeholder channels). You should relish the challenge of working in a small but dynamic team, collaborating with colleagues who are passionate about the JAC's mission.

About the JAC

The JAC is an independent body that selects candidates for judicial office in courts and tribunals in England and Wales, and for some tribunals with UK-wide jurisdiction. The JAC was set up in 2006 to maintain and strengthen judicial independence and to make the appointments process clearer and more accountable. Now in its 14th year, the JAC is recognised for its open, independent and merit-based selection of members of the judiciary. The JAC is committed to attracting applicants from as wide a field as possible and works closely with a range of organisations to promote vacancies to eligible candidates. More is on our website: www.judicialappointments.gov.uk

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, your main responsibilities will be:

Stakeholder management - working alongside the Diversity and Stakeholder Engagement Manager

  • find, research and approach key partners, building relationships between them and the JAC
  • build the JAC stakeholder list, including prioritising key partners, in order to enable the team to continue long-term relationships
  • develop relationships with existing stakeholders
  • work with stakeholders to help disseminate content

Content

  • create content for social media, including designing graphics/social media cards
  • create written and visual content for recruitment marketing campaigns, stakeholder events and communications for policy and change initiatives (including internal campaigns)
  • create content for news announcements, often with tight turnarounds
  • create new long-term content, such as candidate guidance
  • commission and review content from stakeholders (such as case studies from members of the judiciary), advising on tone and language to make sure content is engaging and in line with JAC house style
  • work with the Senior Communications Manager to develop a long-term content plan
  • distribute content on JAC-owned channels as well as via external partners
  • assist on internal communications for the JAC, crafting content for internal channels to communicate with staff, commissioners and panel members
  • always ensure that content uses the JAC brand and visual identity to the best of its ability and potentially find new ways of using the visual identity to improve content

Other

  • provide communications support such as updating the external website and intranet, supporting the handling of media enquiries, media monitoring and creating content
  • regularly evaluate content and communications campaigns, analysing findings and making recommendations for change and improvement
  • choose the best channels and formats for information and suggest ideas to reach relevant audiences
