Job Description

Our client is recruiting for a Junior Test Engineer to join their growing company based in York. As a Test Engineer, you'll be involved in all phases of an IT project, which makes testing an excellent field for those who want to develop skills related to all aspects of software development. In developing cross functional skills, you will have the flexibility to progress your career into more senior roles including a Test Manager, Automated Test Analyst and roles outside of testing such as Business Analyst and Production Support.

We're looking for an individual with a real passion for testing; wants to work in a talented development team on some exciting projects; along with a real drive to use the latest technologies to create exciting, innovative products.

Key Accountabilities:

o Testing of new features and/or services required by the business.
o Test new and existing webpages/applications.
o Development of tests cases to ensure all acceptance criteria are met.
o Working closely with developers in a modern agile development environment.
o Participating in daily stand-up meetings, retrospectives, and other agile procedures
o Writing bug reports and updating issues in Jira.
o Perform manual testing on websites.
o Creating and maintaining the automated test suite.
o API testing with Insomnia

Person Specification:

o Can demonstrate practical skills, curiosity, and a passion for testing.
o Has good written and communication skills.
o Must be computer literate with an enthusiasm for IT and technology.
o Have excellent interpersonal skills as there will be interaction with both internal and external stakeholders, at all levels.
o Have strong organisational and time management skills - be able to multi-task and be a problem solver. You may be asked to work independently.
o Ability to deal with high volumes of work accurately and to deadline.
o Must have a can-do attitude with ability to work under pressure, be enthusiastic and proactive.


Ideally you will have:

o 1+ Year's experience as a software tester or worked within a similar technical role.
o Experience of manually testing websites and mobile devices.
o Experience with JIRA or other issue tracking tools.
o Experience of working in an Agile development Environment.
o An appreciation of website technologies, such as CSS / HTML and JavaScript.
