Job Description

An exciting opportunity for someone to take that step into a role as a Kitchen Assistant, based in Wigston.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide assistance to the cook in all her duties.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure correct personal hygiene of all staff using the kitchen.

Ensure good hygiene practice for all equipment and food preparation surfaces, by ensuring the regular cleaning and disinfecting of all areas in the kitchen, storage areas and hot-plates, etc.

Ensure that food is consumed by 'use by' dates, and rotate stock to ensure 'first-in/first-out usage.

Discard food that has become unfit for human consumption.

Reduce food waste as far as possible.

Follow the 4 week Menu schedule at care home

Prepare, cook and serve the main meal to residents and staff

Prepare dinner trays and serve to resident's who are eating in their own rooms because of ill health or choice.

Help prepare, in advance, items for teatime when required.

Interact with residents and ask them what meal choices they would like

Manage a team of staff to:

Serve morning and afternoon hot and cold beverages and snacks to residents in their own rooms or in communal areas.

Serve supper and drinks to residents in their own rooms or communal areas.

Set and clear tables.

Fill and empty dishwasher of crockery and cutlery, and hand wash any item that cannot be put in the dishwasher.

Ensure kitchen is kept in a clean and tidy condition.

Maintain statutory health and safety standards in the kitchen and have a full knowledge of the Homes Fire Procedures.

Attend staff meetings when required.

Such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Catering Manager or the senior member of staff on duty.

THE ROLE

" To work directly under the supervision of the Catering Manager
" To ensure that all duties are completed to a satisfactory standard and within a reasonable time scale.
" To interact with team members in a positive way
" Cook food to a high standard, including meals for those with food intolerances.
" To assist the Catering Manager in organising and filling the rota. Ordering food supplies in their absence.
