List Caller/ Usher - HMCTS

£15.59 per hour | Full-time | Central London | Immediate start

Location: Westminster Magistrates' Court & City of London Magistrates' Court
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm (37 hours per week)- weekly pay via our agency Brook Street
Contract: Temporary until October 2026 (with potential extension)


The Role

We are recruiting on behalf of HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) for a key front-facing position within a busy Magistrates' Court.

This is a dual-role position combining customer service and courtroom responsibilities. You will support the public with enquiries while also working inside the courtroom as a List Caller, announcing cases and assisting with proceedings.

This role is ideal for someone who is confident, organised, and comfortable speaking in a formal environment.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting members of the public at the counter and over the phone
  • Providing clear guidance to court users
  • Preparing court lists and setting up courtrooms
  • Calling and announcing cases in court
  • Checking in defendants, solicitors, and witnesses
  • Escorting and swearing in witnesses and interpreters
  • Booking interpreters and processing timesheets
  • General administrative duties and data entry

What We're Looking For

  • Strong customer service experience
  • Reliable and punctual- ready to prepare courts before hearings commence
  • Confidence in public speaking or presenting
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Standard Admin skills, written and verbal communication.
  • Good IT skills (including Excel)
  • Organised, reliable, and detail-focused
  • Ability to stay calm in a busy, high-pressure environment

Important Information

  • Office-based role (no remote working)
  • Full training provided
  • Must be eligible for CTC clearance (3 years UK residency required)
  • DBS check and references required (processed by us)
  • Security clearance typically takes 2-3 weeks, start dates confirmed once checks are completed.
