Job Description

Job Title - Mechanical Engineer
Location - Cambridge

Brook Street is currently working on behalf of our Global IT Client to recruit a Mechanical Engineer
This is a contract role based in Cambridge for 18 months

As a Brook Street contractor you will be entitled to 25 days holiday per annum, 8 days paid Bank Holidays pro rota, discounted gym membership, use of the onsite health facility, access to online learning and training, free parking and an excellent subsidised restaurant.

Salary: £85,669 plus 5% end of contract bonus depending on experience

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical engineer to develop complete mechanical solutions for future cloud infrastructure working alongside world-leading researchers and engineers. The team is multi-disciplinary, comprising optics, software and electronics experts with a collaborative and agile atmosphere.

Responsibilities
A typical day in this role can include:
Design, source, assemble and test mechanical systems required to support ongoing research activities. Likely to vary from static alignment mounts to actuator mechanisms, stages and robotics. Interactively take and develop requirements from the team to find appropriate solutions in a collaborative environment. The team is agile and priorities and tasks can change rapidly

Skill set/Experience

Expert Solidworks
Produce toleranced manufacturing drawings
Experience working with CNC machinists to source precision parts
Light machining

Desirable:
Motors
Motor control loops
Encoders
Firmware
Electronics
Simulation tools (preferably Ansys)


Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience with systems requiring sub micrometre accuracy and alignment understanding sources of and mitigations for vibrations and manufacturing tolerances

Methods of fabrication to include CNC machining and 3D printing
Sheet metal work
Stage systems
Robotics
Precision motion/alignment
Optical systems
Simulation: Thermal analysis
Design for Manufacture
