Based in Otterbourne, Winchester (not remote), we have an excellent opportunity to join the NHS on a full-time basis, supporting the public by answering and professionally handling 999 emergency calls with focus, empathy and attention to detail. 999 Emergency Call Takers are mediators, influencers, pacifiers, and life savers - no two calls are the same.

About the job
We are looking for Call Takers to work as part of our dynamic team to help support the 999 service. You will be dealing with potential life and death calls from members of the public. This could vary from someone who has fallen over, helping someone perform CPR or assisting with the birth of a baby! This is a career where no two calls are ever quite the same.
As part of the team you will be working in the ambulance control centre alongside Dispatchers, Clinicians and other NHS professionals. You will be directly involved with live emergency calls, taking vital information to help arrange the most appropriate care and support.
You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills with a broad range of patients, family members and other healthcare professionals. You will need to have a caring and compassionate nature and maintain composure whilst dealing with stressful and emotional situations. Having excellent keyboard skills is vital for this job role as you will need to record accurate information quickly.
When will you work?
The service runs from 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and all rolling shift patterns will typically involve working a mixture of day, evening, and weekend shifts. Example shift rotas available, and you will receive your shift roster 10 weeks in advance.
Successful candidates will be required to complete an eight-week fulltime training programme at commencement of post which is fully paid. This covers internal systems, NHS pathways assessments and call centre mentoring.
Your annual salary will start at £20,330 (for full-time), however you have the potential to earn more! On offer is a recruitment and retention bonus of up to £1,200 in your first 6 months. In addition, for hours worked all day Saturday (midnight to midnight) and any weekday after 8pm and before 6am you get time plus 35%. For And all time worked on Sundays and Public Holidays (midnight to midnight) you receive time plus 69%.
What will you need to succeed?
You need to be highly professional, a strong listener with excellent communication skills and telephone manner. It is essential that you can follow processes and procedures. You must be resilient, empathetic, passionate about high quality patient care and be caring and able to remain calm under pressure.
Working as part of a Call Centre team, you will need to be comfortable using a range of databases and web-based applications. Crucial to this role is that you are ICT literate, have excellent customer service skills, can use multiple systems, have great attention to detail and are able to work shifts including evenings and weekends.
