Part Time Court Usher
Workington
£8.91 p/h
20 hours per week (Mon - Fri, flexible to be discussed)
Temporary until 31/03/2022 with possible extension

The Court Usher is a valuable role and acts as an essential first point of contact for many court users involved in hearings. Their primary function is to support the judiciary and ensure the smooth and efficient running of the hearing room to which they are assigned and, in a normal day, they would be expected to spend the majority of their time carrying out this important work.

This can include preparing the hearing room at the start of the day, meeting members of the public and/or their legal representatives, swearing in witnesses, operation of recording and video conferencing equipment and clearing the hearing room at the end of the day.

There will be a need for flexibility to work, on an ad hoc basis, at other courthouses and HMCTS offices to meet business demands. This can include working across different jurisdictions and locations.

If an Usher is not required to spend time in the hearing room for any reason, e.g. if their court is starting late in the day or finishes early, only then should they be asked to undertake other duties, out of court.

Additional tasks can include for example, post handling, general filing and answering standard telephone queries, straightforward data entry and recording.

The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS clearance & 3 years referencing.
