Location: Teesside / Middlesbrough

Salary: £20,304 + benefits

Brook Street Social Care alongside a nation-wide charity specialising in mental health recovery who are currently recruiting for a Peer Support Worker.


As a Peer Support Worker, you will have lived experience offending and being involved with the Criminal Justice System, as well as experience of using mental health services to aid your recovery journey. You will be part of a team which is within the new NHS Specialist Community Forensic Team which covers the North East. You will be working with individuals struggling with mental health and supporting them throughout their recovery journey from secure settings back into the local community.

You will be working as part of a team which prepares and supports vulnerable adults through their transition from secure settings, to living within the community. The overall goal of this team is to help clients achieve their goal of living more fulfilling lives whilst promoting their independence.


With your previously lived experience, you will be able to engage with the service users, and your positive attitude with be able to motivate and inspire them to move onto an independent life. This is a challenging, but rewarding role. You will provide emotional support and engagement, and you will be relied on to engage in support services and develop social networks and activities, including volunteering, so that they can make a successful transition from Secure Care to living independently in the community.
You need a good understanding of recovery in relation to mental health and the factors that inhibit this, the impact of being involved in the criminal justice system and possibly some lived experience of being in a Secure Care setting. You will have excellent communication skills, and self-motivated.
