Job Description
My client that sell branded and private label sugars, sweeteners and syrups in the grocery food service are looking for a Pilot Plant Technician to help set up equipment for experimental work and development trials for the technical and commercial development of new processes.
Duties
Prepare the pilot plant for planned work, by ensuring that necessary plant is in place and functional.
Support good housekeeping and collect supplies of raw materials for the pilot plant to achieve minimum downtime.
Support process development trials as necessary to transfer new or improved processes from the bench scale to pilot plant scale.
Participate in the planning and implementation of pilot plant activities in order to provide experimental data and test results.
Maintaining and improving Health and Safety standards for the pilot plant.
Improve pilot plant standards by participation, when required, in pilot plant meetings.
Assist in the transfer of new or improved processes to the commercial scale, including their commissioning.
Support, when required, other areas in the R&T department (commissioning, continuous improvement projects, etc.).
Responsibilities
Safety. Ensure safe preparation and operation of equipment in consideration of new product and process development
Prepare and set up pilot plant equipment to facilitate planned trials, which might include routine maintenance duties and mechanical repairs if required.
Support and assist the R&T team conducting trials in the pilot plant, to develop new products and processes.
Supply raw materials (IBC`s, chemicals, etc.) to R&T personnel working in the pilot plant.
Discharge IBC`s of waste or surplus materials safely to the anaerobic plant or other suitable disposal point.
Housekeeping: Keeping the floor for the pilot plant dry, clean and in a good condition. Cleaning of equipment after use.
Obtain samples from the refinery when necessary.
Maintain required documentation (Environmental records, permit to work, maintenance records etc.).
Cooperate with other departments (electrical, process, etc.) when needed to carry out some maintenance tasks.
Manage stocks of critical parts of equipment for the pilot plant.
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)
Good practical skills for plant set-up and operation.
Good basic maintenance skills for plant assembly and repairs.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Good team working skills.
Basic IT skills (Use of Microsoft Office - Word and Excel).
Available to work flexible hours as required
FLT License, or willingness to be trained
ESSENTIAL WORK EXPERIENCES
Plant operation experience and pilot plant operation.
Mechanical maintenance experience.
Familiar with Health and safety systems of work.
Process engineering design.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Basic mechanical engineering skills training
