Job Description
Job Title: Quantity Surveyor
Salary: 20,000-30,000pa
Location: Preston
Being quantity surveyor, you`ll manage all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures.
You`ll seek to minimise the cost of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. This includes ensuring statutory building regulations are met. You`ll prepare estimates and costs of the work and when the project is in progress, you`ll keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
" To achieve at least 15% gross profit on each job
" To provide accurate measures, CV`s and valuations on time
" To ensure that payments are processed and made on time by clients
" To protect the commercial and contractual interests of the company
" Contribute to gaining new business via effective tendering
" Read and understand contract & project documents
" Measure for, prepare and submit detailed valuations and final accounts/sub-contracts
" Deal with variations efficiently
" Work effectively with other staff, teams and departments to deliver client satisfaction
" Liaise regularly and effectively with clients` key staff at all levels
" Take reasonable and efficient steps to ensure timely payments in line with the programme schedule
" To attend, contribute to and lead meetings as required
" To work in accordance with all company policies, processes and procedures
" Ensuring confidentiality and commercial sensitivity
Skills/knowledge required:
" Commercial awareness
" High level Contractual Knowledge including Standard Forms of Contract
" Degree or other relevant qualification
" Operational experience/knowledge in Civil Engineering/Groundworksector & packages
" High level of site awareness
" Company policies, processes, procedures and the Quality Assurance system
" Health and Safety law and practice
" CSCS accreditation at appropriate level
" Appropriate IT skills including the use of company software packages
" High level Communication & Negotiation skills
" Information management skills
" Employment Law & procedures
