Job Description

The Research Community Engagement Manager is responsible for managing the Research Technology Professionals (RTP) Community as an audience across Europe, Middle East, and Africa. This role includes working closely with our client to improve open-source software projects and extend them by working with the RTP community and more broadly. You will report to a Research Software Engineer.

Our client wants to help research technology professionals to accelerate research outcomes on the cloud using Microsoft Azure and other Microsoft solutions. To achieve this, they want to provide skilling, training, and community opportunities to this audience through the creation of a Research Technology Professionals community.

They require an individual that will be responsible for the following requirements within this programme:

1. Drive registrations to our client's Research Technology Professionals community and drive Microsoft certification.
2. Manage our client's engagement and participation in existing Research Software Engineering (RSE) communities.
3. Proactively organise RTP virtual events such as bootcamps, webinars, hackathons.
4. Manage incoming requests to support Research Technology Professional requests
5. Research Software Engineering on open-source projects, such as Project InnerEye for medical imaging AI. This includes hands-on software engineering, open-source community engagement, and driving awareness and adoption by the research community.
Skillset
" Strong spoken and written English language skills.
" Demonstrable strong technical competence, including Azure certification.
" Demonstrable Research Software Engineering competence
" Highly organised with previous experience in programme management.

Preferred Qualifications

" Degree in Computer Science, Operations Research or a related STEM field
" Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud computing
" Working knowledge High Performance Computing
" Machine learning, AI, and/or Medical imaging or computer vision AI knowledge
Experience

The ideal candidate for this role would be a Research Software Engineer, Research Technology Professional or a recent Computer Science graduate from a research-intensive course, with Azure cloud computing experience and great communication and collaboration skills.

Typical Day in the Role

This role will have two core expectations.

One focuses on working directly to improve open-source software projects and extend them by working with the RTP community and more broadly. A typical day will consist of meeting with Researchers and Engineers and work on open source code to improve it with the project team, including new features, software packaging, and issue resolution, etc. You will use this knowledge and collaborate in bringing these to RTP community through a range of channels.

The second focuses on managing the new Research Technology Professionals community. A typical day will consist of the following types of activities:
" Leading a core v-team to create relevant content, engagement, and communications in the RTP Teams Community.
" Proactively creating value for the RTP community through events such as hackathons, webinars, certification bootcamps and more.
" Working closely with the marketing team to create assets that helps recruit new members to the RTP community and to drive certification and skilling.
" Creatively leading the RTP community to maximise the positive impact in supporting RTPs in using Microsoft technology, and specifically Microsoft Azure.
" Engaging in existing RSE communities as our client's advocate to meet and support RTPs in existing communities.
