Residential Childcare Support Worker

Full Time / Permanent

Unqualified Rate: £14 per hour (plus sleep‑ins) Qualified Rate (Level 3/4): £15 per hour (plus sleep‑ins) Sleep‑In Payment: £65 per night

Location: Dorchester Hours: Shift pattern on rotation

Who are we?

We are a local residential care provider offering high‑quality support to children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, as well as social and emotional mental health needs. Many of the young people we support have experienced adverse childhood experiences, and our aim is to provide a stable, nurturing home environment where they can feel safe, valued, and supported.

Our team works collaboratively to deliver flexible, individualised care packages that help young people develop confidence, life skills, and independence. All staff receive training in developmental trauma and therapeutic approaches to ensure the highest standard of care.

Main Duties and Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people and an understanding of the challenges faced by those in care

  • Flexibility to work 7 x 24‑hour shifts (including sleep‑ins) over a 3‑week rotation (09:00am - 09:30am next day)

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people

  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships

  • Strong teamwork skills and willingness to follow guidance

  • Encouraging young people's individual interests and personal development

  • Hold (or be willing to work towards) a Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification and progress to Level 4

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car

  • Excellent communication and listening skills

  • Willingness to learn and engage in ongoing training

  • Enhanced DBS check required (paid for by the organisation)

  • Experience in EBD, social care, residential work, or youth work is advantageous
