Job Description

Server Engineer - 3 month contract ideally based Edinburgh or Aberdeen

To be supplementary resource to speed up the migration of around 500 servers currently hosted in house/corporate parent onto Company cloud infrastructure . The client is a recently acquired UK operation of a US oil company. Company is the newly appointed MSP

The ability to scope server moves, spot and deal with operational impact risks, build and test the right server environment, plan and execute moves whether V to V or P to V and handover fully resilient, documented operational systems - all without disrupting Business as usual.

An excellent understanding of Active Directory, networking and TCP/IP is essential.

The role also requires a good understanding of, and practical experience working with:
" Windows 20012 R2/ 2016 Server administration/ configuration
" Experience of Arcserve (pref)
" Experience of Server Virtualisation / migration (pref)
" AD, Advanced Group Policy
" VMware - 5.5+
" Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 / 2016
" DNS/DDNS
" Clustering and SAN/NAS storage
" Powershell
" MYSQL (preferably)
" Microsoft accredited (preferably)
" VMware accredited (preferably)

Contractors will be paid on the basis of a rate per day, where a working day is assumed to be 8 hours. Within that contractors take responsibility for completing the project outcomes required in the timescales agreed between them and the project manager concerned.

The appointed contractors need to be prepared to work evenings and weekends as required in order to complete out of hours migrations if/when needed.

Appointed contractors must take full responsibility for not only the technical requirements of server migrations, but also working with and feedback back on progress to nominated project managers, documenting builds, completing Knowledge Base articles and handover notes, and complying with all requirements in terms of build process, resilience, backup, DR and security.
