Job Description

Slaughterer/Lairage Intake
£13.30 Per hour
Different Shift Patterns available

An exciting opportunity is available with a very prestige client of ours; the role is for a Slaughterer to join a busy Abattoir in Hull.

Main purpose of the role:


To work to the department targets and dress any part of the carcass to the dressing specification. To and uphold food safety and quality standards.

  • Slaughter knife holder skills needed:
  • Must be competence with all the main dressing cuts on the Main line, dress and trim to the required standard.
  • May need to be trained on the hog Saw if required.
  • Fully skilled on the hand-held whizzer/Skinners
  • Lairage intake Skills
  • Complete all tasks involved on pig intake (including AWO Training)
  • Working on the Butina/Gas Chamber
  • Competent in updating system that relate to the pig intake sheets.

Main duties include;

o Under the guidance of the Supervisors and Line Leaders, ensure that all dressing specification are followed, and any anomalies are reported immediately
o To ensure that any production targets set by the Supervisors and Line Leader are met; or if this is not possible, shortfalls are reported to the relevant person in a timely manner
o To maintain a clean and tidy area (work, changing room, canteen etc), meeting both safety and hygiene regulations of the site
o Carry out training commensurate with the area including regular refresher/update training as and when required
o To report any equipment defects immediately to the Supervisor or Line Leader
o To assist during internal / external audits as required
o To maintain high levels of work performance including attendance, timekeeping etc
o Adhere to lean principles and actively contribute and participate in continuous improvement projects
o Understand relevant legislation, internal company policies and procedures, codes of practice, technical specifications, COSHH regulations and developments in H.A.C.C.P systems AWO Training that is relevant to the department
o To identify hazards in the workplace and actively take part in the behavioural safety programme


Experience / Skills required;

o Previous Slaughter experience
o Awareness of customer standards/Butchery
o Minimum level 2 Food Safety
o Basic AWO Training
