Software Engineer
Cambridge

Brook Street is currently working on behalf of our Global IT Client to recruit a proficient Software Engineer.

This is a contract role based in Cambridge until 30th June 2021 initially.

As a Brook Street contractor you will be entitled to 25 days holiday per annum, 8 days paid Bank Holidays pro rota and use of the onsite facilities.

Salary: Up to £68,000pa depending on experience

Job Description
This project involves developing a revolutionary new technique to store data in glass using femtosecond lasers and read it out using advanced optical imaging techniques.

This position is for a proficient Software Engineer who will have the opportunity to impact the design of this exciting new storage system by helping develop the signal processing required to read data out.

You will join an incredibly talented multi-disciplinary team of laser physicists, optical physicists, electronics engineers, and computer scientists working together in a tight-knit team to build this storage technology of the future.

A typical day in the role will involve some mixture of:
- Analysing signal data
- Monitoring how existing numeric algorithms are performing and tuning and tweaking them to improve the recovered signal.
- Talking to other team members to gather details of their issues, and discuss possible improvements.
- Implementing said improvements, and reporting on results.

Candidate Requirements
Demonstrable research competence (PhD, Masters or equivalent experience).

Proven in-depth knowledge and demonstrable experience of:
- Python, NumPy
- Digital signals processing

The ideal person will possess excellent software design and implementation skills, be skilled in signal processing and filtering on 2D images. In addition, they should be comfortable with the continuous mathematics underpinning this.

This project spans multiple disciplines, so the ability to communicate well with other team members and support overall team goals is crucial.

The role will require a high degree of ethics, dealing with very confidential information.
