Job Description

I am currently looking for a Systems Accountant to join the financial systems team of our public sector client. The hours for this role will be Monday to Friday at 37.5 hours per week and the contract is currently for 3 months, with the potential of being extended. The pay rate for this role is £15.58 per hour.

This is a remote working role for the foreseeable future, however you may be required to go in to the office at some point, which is based in Manchester city centre.


Within this role you will be a key member of the financial systems team, you will manage and oversee aspects of financial accounting functions such as accounting, standing orders, SFIs and accounts, and DH ALB requirements. Experience of working with public health is desirable.


Key tasks:
" Responsible for the integrity of the financial ledger to ensure accurate reporting
" Systems maintenance including hierarchy changes, coding and access controls
" Lead the development of system based reports
" Lead in developing and delivering finance training as part of a regular programme to both finance staff and budget holders - highly developed training skills are required as this post is expected to be a 'train the trainer'
" Contribute to monthly and annual financial accounts process


For this role you should have in depth specialist knowledge of financial ledger systems, acting as lead specialist in this area. You should be able to provide and receive highly complex or sensitive information and support delivery of such information to a range of differing groups.


You must have the ability to problem solve and respond to unexpected demands. You need to be able to make decisions autonomously when required, and work to tight deadlines.


You will have to plan projects which impact across the department and organisation and therefore you will need excellent communication and presentation skills. You must also be an expert at system report writing.


You will line manage any direct reports, including setting objectives, undertaking their annual appraisals and supporting their personal development needs. You will also support the national regional finance team with ad-hoc projects as required.


Required experience:
" A high level of understanding of the operation of financial systems and financial accounting requirements
" Expert knowledge of the Oracle financial ledger, including the management of coding structures and hierarchies
" Experience of working in a financial role at senior level
" Experience of liaising with auditors
" Qualified to AAT or Degree level
" CCAB qualified or part qualified
" Evidence of on-going CPD
" Demonstratable knowledge of specialist areas

You will also be required to provide 3 years worth of references.
