Job Description
Job Title: Administrative Officer (AO)
Location: Wigan County Court, Darlington Street, Wigan, WN1 1DW
Contract: Temporary - Start ASAP until 30/09/2025 (possibility of extension)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9-5 (Some flexibility may be needed) 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £12.36 per hour (paid weekly)

Overview:
Brook Street is currently recruiting on behalf of His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) for an Administrative Officer to join the team at Wigan County Court. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a key public sector organisation, supporting the daily operation of the court and providing a high standard of service to court users and legal professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Administrative Officer, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing court and tribunal documents, files, and paperwork
- Handling incoming and outgoing post
- General administration: photocopying, scanning, and filing
- Data input and updating records using internal systems
- Supporting court hearings and meetings, including booking rooms and preparing materials
- Communicating with court users face-to-face, by phone, and in writing
- Drafting standard correspondence and routine reports
- Supporting case progression and court listings
- Processing court orders, claims, fines, and legal documentation
- Ensuring compliance with internal procedures and standards
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities
- Fast and accurate data entry, with solid IT skills (Word, Excel, internal systems)
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet targets
- Professional and collaborative team player
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A*-C including English and Maths
- NVQ Level II in Business Administration or equivalent experience is desirable
