Job Description
Environment Agency - Customer Service Advisor
Location: Sheffield
Pay: £14.74
Job Type: Temporary
Sector: Public Sector
Hours: Rotating shift pattern (around 37 hours per week)
We are looking for dedicated Customer Service Advisers to join our contact centre team in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in protecting the environment by providing guidance to the public.
Working Hours
This role operates on a rotating shift pattern, which means your working hours will vary each week. Shifts will include a day shift, afternoon/evening shift and a night shift.
You will work weekdays, weekends, and receive regular days off as part of the rotation. Any office-based work will always fall within the day shift on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays.
About the Role
As a Customer Service Adviser, your focus will be assisting customers over the phone, with some written correspondence and administrative tasks. You'll help customers understand regulations, guidance, and processes, and take reports of environmental incidents.
This is not a sales role. Instead, the emphasis is on providing clear, accurate, and timely information. You will follow established procedures while using your judgement to ensure information reaches the right people across the Environment Agency.
Typical duties will include:
- Handling incoming calls, gathering and providing information based on customer needs
- Sending follow-up correspondence, such as confirmation emails or resource links
- Completing administrative processes and record-keeping
Skills and Experience
We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate:
- Strong customer service experience (contact centre, retail, hospitality, or other customer-facing roles)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- A reliable employment history with evidence of long term engagement
- Confidence in using a Windows PC or laptop, including standard office software
- Five GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English Language) or equivalent
- NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration (or relevant clerical experience)
While qualifications are an advantage, the most important qualities we are seeking are practical skills, strong communication, and a positive, professional attitude.
Brook Street is proud to support the Armed Forces Covenant and as such, we guarantee to interview all candidates who are veterans or spouses/partners of military personnel, and who meet all the essential criteria for the vacancy.
As a Disability Confident Leader, and holder of the Gold Award status from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, Brook Street, as a supplier to the Public Sector Resourcing Framework (PSR), will offer you a guaranteed interview with a PSR Sourcer.
Should you identify as a candidate with a disability and/or as a veteran or spouse/partner of military personnel and meet all the essential criteria for the role, we encourage you to reach out to us via the Brook Street website.
