We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Higher Executive Officer to join the Maritime Coastguard Agency in a temporary basis. This position is ideal for someone looking to advance their career in a dynamic and supportive environment.

About the Role:

As the Higher Executive Officer, your main tasks will include:

  • Supporting the Chief Executive Officer administration, coordinating with other departments.
  • Preparing and drafting letters, overseeing the Chief Executive's diary, and monitoring their inbox.
  • Leading the handling and processing of all submissions, ensuring compliance with required standards and processes.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with MCA policy leads and Department for Transport colleagues.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for the Chief Executive, providing strategic advice and guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate email responses, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Advise on drafting and processing of submissions, maintaining high standards.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration.
  • Manage and report on MCA ministerial business, highlighting key areas of focus.
  • Lead the preparation of briefings for ministerial and parliamentary events.
  • Support the Chief Executive with administration, overseeing of their diary and email monitoring.

About You:

  • Competent drafting skills with the ability to produce high-quality documentation in Plain English.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in managing stakeholders at all levels, including senior stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, capable of meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence others effectively.
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft packages and admin.
  • Discreet and able to handle sensitive data.
  • Confident in making decisions, with initiative and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Previous PA or secretarial experience would be advantageous.

  • Hourly rate: £16.90 p/h
  • Work schedule: 37 hours per week (09:00-17:00), hybrid with minimum 60% on site
  • Temporary contract: 6 months with possibility of extension

The successful candidate will be subject to a 3-year activity check and a basic DBS.
