Location: Bradford
Pay: £12.26 per hour (rising to £13.25 after 12 weeks)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary

Join HM Courts & Tribunals Service as an Administrative Officer
We're looking for organised, motivated and customer‑focused individuals to join HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) in Bradford. As an Administrative Officer, you'll play a vital role in supporting the smooth operation of courts and tribunals across the region.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative abilities, good communication skills and a desire to deliver high‑quality public service.
You'll join a supportive team working in a fast‑paced environment where no two days are the same. Hybrid working may be available once fully trained.
Key Purpose of the Role
Administrative Officers provide essential support to court and tribunal services, ensuring cases progress efficiently and accurately. You'll work within established processes while also contributing to continuous improvement through Lean working practices.
You may have direct contact with court users, legal professionals and members of the judiciary, so excellent customer service is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Administration
- Preparing papers, files and materials for court hearings, meetings and tribunals
- Producing official court or tribunal documents
- General photocopying, filing, post handling and data entry
- Maintaining accurate records using in‑house systems
- Booking rooms and supporting training or group activities
- Preparing meeting agendas, notes, joining instructions and handouts
Drafting
- Preparing standard letters, correspondence, minutes, notes and reports following established guidelines
Operational Support
- Clerking civil and family courts and hearings
- Assisting court users and supporting listing/rota management
- Contacting parties, scheduling hearings and serving court documents
- Handling face‑to‑face, written and telephone enquiries
- Supporting team problem‑solving and continuous improvement activities
Casework Processing
- Processing court orders, claims, fines, fees and legal aid documentation
- Ensuring accurate court results and meeting throughput/accuracy targets
Checking & Verification
- Reviewing documents, accounts, claims and reports for compliance
- Quality‑checking your own work and occasionally the work of others
Information Gathering
- Compiling information for reports, statements, accounts and statistical analysis
- Preparing bundles and interpreting source materials
Calculations & Financial Processing
- Basic statistical reporting and financial data handling
- Reconciling accounts and preparing invoices
- Managing juror numbers and ensuring efficient planning
Communication & Customer Service
- Working directly with the judiciary, magistrates, managers and court users
- Providing clear guidance on forms, processes and judicial decisions
- Delivering a helpful, polite and accurate service at all times
Other Duties
- Supporting wider team needs and undertaking reasonable tasks in line with the role
Skills & Qualifications
- 5 GCSEs (A-C)* or equivalent, or relevant administrative experience
- Strong IT skills and ability to use in‑house systems
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to follow processes accurately and work to tight deadlines
- A team player with good organisational and problem‑solving skills
