Key responsibilities

  • Proactively contact customers by phone and email to chase outstanding payments in a professional manner.

  • Reconcile customer accounts, investigate discrepancies, and ensure balances are accurate.

  • Monitor aged debt and highlight problem accounts or risks to the wider finance team.

  • Accurately post and allocate customer receipts to the correct accounts.

  • Review and maintain customer credit limits, escalating concerns where appropriate.

  • Set up new credit and cash accounts in line with company procedures.

  • Prepare daily banking and support general cash management activities.

  • Produce and send customer statements and copy invoices when required.

  • Work closely with branches and customers to resolve invoice and delivery queries.

  • Process customer payments via online portals and other electronic methods.

  • Assist with approval of customer orders that exceed agreed credit limits.

  • Keep accurate records and spreadsheets to support reporting and audit requirements.

About you

  • Confident and professional on the phone, comfortable discussing overdue payments with customers.

  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with figures.

  • Able to manage your own workload, prioritise tasks and work to deadlines.

  • A proactive problem-solver with a customer-focused mindset.

  • Comfortable working with financial data and standard office/finance systems.

  • A collaborative team player who builds effective relationships with colleagues in other departments and branches.

Previous experience in credit control or a finance-related role is an advantage, but strong transferable skills and the right attitude are equally important.
