Location: Barnstaple Courts County Court Civic Centre, North Walk Barnstaple Devon EX31 1DY United Kingdom
Contract Length: 12 months
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Start Date: 27th April
Pay Rate: £12.21 per hour
Clearance Required: Enhanced DBS
About the Role
We are recruiting a Court Usher for Barnstaple Courts to support the smooth running of daily hearings. This is a highly interactive role requiring excellent people skills, organisation, and a calm, professional approach.
You'll be working closely with the judiciary, legal professionals, and the public, ensuring that court users receive clear direction and hearings are well managed. Additionally, you will provide support to judges and magistrates during court sessions. Training will be on the job.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing courtrooms before hearings
- Ensuring all participants are in the right place at the right time
- Supporting clerks and judges during court sessions
- Carrying out administrative and basic IT tasks
- Helping manage the daily flow of court users
- Providing guidance and assistance to visitors and witnesses
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong communication skills
- IT literacy
- Ability to multitask
- Adaptability and a proactive approach
- Friendly, approachable, and considerate personality
- Able to work independently and collaboratively
- 5 GCSEs A*-C (or equivalent)
Desirable:
- Previous customer service or administrative experience (not required)
