About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an Administrative Officer (AO) to join Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) at Thames Magistrates' Court. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and professional individual to play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the court and delivering outstanding customer service to the public, judiciary, and legal professionals.
As an Administrative Officer, you will work as part of a flexible team providing a range of administrative and operational support to ensure the smooth progression of cases through the court system.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain court and tribunal papers, files, and documentation.
Handle face-to-face, telephone, and written enquiries from court users.
Create, update, and maintain accurate records on internal systems.
Produce standard correspondence, minutes, and reports in line with set procedures.
Provide administrative and operational support during hearings and tribunals.
Assist in listing, scheduling, and case management activities.
Check and verify documents, results, and returns for accuracy and compliance.
Process financial transactions including fines, fees, and payments.
Support colleagues in daily team meetings, problem-solving sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience Required
Five GCSEs (A*-C) or equivalent, including English Language.
NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration (or equivalent experience).
Strong administrative and organisational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet accuracy and performance targets.
