Brook Street is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Certification Officer to join our client within the Civil Service. This position is ideal for someone looking to start a fulfilling career in a stable and supportive environment.

About the Role:

The Certification Officer role is part of the Seafarer Services branch, which focuses on certifying seafarers to work at sea. Your main tasks will include:

  • Reviewing and assessing seafarer's documents (training records, sea time, medical certificates) to determine their eligibility for certification.
  • Issuing Certificates of Competency and Flag State Endorsements to qualified seafarers.
  • Communicating with seafarers via email and phone to provide guidance and request additional information.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service by responding to telephone and email inquiries from seafarers, maritime colleges, and shipping companies.
  • Contributing to administrative tasks, branch projects, and customer service initiatives.

No prior maritime knowledge is required as full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess applications against MCA and regulatory criteria, ensuring timely processing.
  • Assist seafarers in meeting examination requirements by assessing their eligibility and requesting further information.
  • Maintain accurate records of incoming mail and emails, updating tracking systems and databases.
  • Provide support for various administrative tasks, branch projects, and customer service initiatives.

About You:

  • Good attention to detail
  • Able to work with IT systems, particularly Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage a conflicting workload.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, capable of delivering information clearly and professionally.
  • Experience in handling data accurately and providing top-notch customer service via email and telephone.

  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week

  • Location: Spring Place Offices, 105 Commercial Road, Southampton, Hampshire, SO15 1EG
  • Temporary assignment: Until 31/03/2025, with a possibility of becoming permanent based on performance.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 3-year activity check and a basic DBS.
