Job description

Job Title: Deputy Manager
Service: 4-Bed Children's Residential Home
Age Range: 8-17 Years
Hours: 160 Hours Per Month
Salary: £15.65 per hour
Location: Stoke on Trent

Purpose of the Role

The Deputy Manager will support the Registered Manager in ensuring the home operates in line with its Statement of Purpose, delivering high-quality, child-centred care and positive outcomes for young people.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home
  • Lead shifts and take full responsibility in the Manager's absence
  • Provide strong leadership, guidance, and supervision to staff
  • Promote a positive, therapeutic, and nurturing culture
  • Support staff development, inductions, and performance management

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Always safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people
  • Ensure compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations (2015) and Quality Standards
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting in line with safeguarding procedures
  • Support Ofsted inspections and internal audits

Care & Support for Young People

  • Provide high-quality, consistent, and nurturing care
  • Support young people's emotional, social, and educational development
  • Promote independence, self-esteem, and positive behaviour
  • Build strong relationships with young people, acting as a positive role model

Multi-Agency Working

  • Liaise effectively with Local Authorities, schools, health professionals, and social workers
  • Contribute to care planning, reviews, and professional meetings

Quality Assurance

  • Support Regulation 44 and 45 processes
  • Assist with audits, monitoring, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure young people's voices are heard and acted upon

Environment & Operations

  • Maintain a safe, homely, and welcoming environment
  • Oversee health & safety, maintenance, and resources
  • Support effective budget management and monitoring

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Level 3 in Children & Young People's Workforce (Essential)
  • Level 5 in Leadership & Management (or willingness to work towards)
  • Previous experience in children's residential care
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and Ofsted regulations
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a tea
